ATHLETICS AND CROSS COUNTRY ZONE CHAMPION SCHOOL AGAIN IN 2008

Pennant Hills High School, in 2008, has once again dominated schools in our zone by winning both the Cross Country and Athletics championships. In cross country, Pennant Hills High has now been undefeated for 18 consecutive years, while in athletics the schools' rein has stretched for 17 years. To our knowledge no other school, either public or private, can boast such a record. Congratulations to all of our athletes who competed with such distinction and also to the staff and coaches who put in so much of their time in preparing the students.

GO PENNO!!!

Note: Former Penno student, Adam Rutter, who played such a large part in our successes in both athletics and cross country while at the school, will this year represent Australia at the Beijing Olympics as a part of the race walking team. Congratulations Adam and good luck.

PREFECTS SUPPORT JEANS FOR GENES DAY

The Prefect body of Pennant Hills High School continued with a very proud tradition of supporting a range of charities by organising 'Jeans for Genes Day' activities in the school. All staff and students were encouraged to wear jeans to school for the day and were encouraged to give a donation for the 'privilege' of being out of uniform. A total in excess of $750 was raised for the charity and we thank all staff and students who supported the activity.

NEW INDUSTRIAL ARTS & VISUAL ARTS BUILDING OPENS

On Friday 12th August, 2005 the school held an Opening Ceremony to mark the completion of the new Industrial Arts / Visual Arts building. This facility was build as a result of the fire that devastated approximately one-third of the school in June, 2001. Although it has been a long time coming, the new building offers students the opportunity to work in state of the art facilities that could not be equaled by many other public high schools in NSW. At the Opening Ceremony the Principal, Mr. Geoff Wing, paid tribute to the Industrial Arts and Visual Arts staff in the school for enduring the hardship, especially for Industrial Arts of working in demountable buildings for the last four years, and how they have ensured that students' results have not been adversely affected in that time. We look forward to the continued success of these faculties.

NEW INDUSTRIAL ARTS/VISUAL ARTS BUILDING STARTS - ALONG WITH NEW GAMES COURTS

After a long wait, the new Industrial Arts/Visual Arts building, along with the new basketball/tennis courts are finally under way. Construction began towards the end of June, 2004 with the games courts. These are being built along the 'Canteen Road' where the old demountable buildings used to be. The courts will consist initially of two basketball courts/two tennis courts.

Upon completion of the courts the actual IA/VA building will start. This is to be built on the site of the old games courts. Once the building is complete, a third games court will be built along with the refurbishment of the old existing court.

The building contractor, CIC Constructions (who in fact built the school initially), have indicated that the entire project is a 52 week contract so we look forward to having our new facility up and running by June, 2005.

'PENNO' PRESENTED WITH DIRECTOR-GENERAL'S AWARD

Pennant Hills High School was awarded a Director-General’s School Achievement Award for 2002. This prestigious award is fitting recognition of the tireless efforts of so many members of our school community to overcome the adversity we faced during the eighteen months after the devastating fire of June, 2001. But more importantly, it is well-deserved recognition of the quality learning and teaching that occurs at this school each and every day of the school year.

I congratulate our staff, students and parents on receiving this honour.

Newly appointed Director-General of the Department of Education and Training, Ms Jan McClelland, personally presented the award to the school on 4 December, 2002.

EX-STUDENTS ARE TOPS

Three former 'Penno' students have reached the 'highs' in their respective fields. Anthony Ricketts has entered the ranks of the world's top ten squash players for the first time. Anthony, who completed Year 12 in 1996, was recently ranked as number nine in the world. Two other ex-students have earned themselves places as the top Education graduates in N.S.W. Jessica Morris (Year 12, 1998) and Karen Barnwell (Year 12, 1997) have recently been selected as the top targeted graduates and have been appointed to full time teaching positions within the NSW Department of Education and Training..

Congratulations to all.
